Fairview Shaft Section come out on top

The Fairview Mine Shaft Section team that won the tournament.

In July the Shaft team were crowned champions of the annually held Liberty Life tournament. The last games of the league took place at Fairview Sports Ground last Wednesday.

Eight sections operating within Fairview Mine competed in the tournament. These included the overall champions Shaft, Kern & Royal, VTN, 18-Level, Underground Engineering and Trackless, 60-Below, Biox and 60-Level. The teams played 14 games each. Shaft finished in first place with 34 points, followed by Kern & Royal with 27.

According to organiser Victor Ndinisa, the main purpose of the tournament is the wellness of the employees and building team spirit
at work.

For being crowned champions, the Shaft team received a floating trophy, gold medals and prize money of
R1 000. The runners-up, Kern & Royal received R500 and silver medals and the third finishers, VTN received R400 and bronze medals.

The other prizes were as follows; 18-Level – R300, Underground Engineering and Trackless – R250, 60-Below – R200, Biox – R150 and 60-Level – R100.

Meanwhile, Ndinisa also confirmed that their annual held Medshield Medical Aid Tournament will take place on December 14 and 15.

The latter provides a medical-aid scheme to Barberton Mines’ employees.

Individuals who were awarded prizes in the 2017 Fairview Winter’s Departmental League
• Player of the tournament – Tito Manzini of Shaft
• Top goal-scorer – Tito Manzini of Shaft
• Best player – Jansen Shiba of 18-Level
• Best midfielder – Given Lubisi of 60-Below
• Best defender – Welile Mkhonto of Kern & Royal.
