Four robbers flee from filing station with more than R5 000 in cash

Jathira Filling Station that was burgled in the early hours of last Wednesday.

According to Leon Carelse, Mbombela’s operational manager for Nkomazi, the robbers fled with R5 200 in cash.

He said they first attempted to bomb an ATM situated in the shop. They failed to open it and proceeded to the till.

“The four men stormed the shop at around 03:20 and locked up the six employees, who were on duty at the time, in the kitchen. The traumatised staff pressed the panic button.
But by the time Hi-Tech Barberton and the police arrived at the scene, the men had fled,” said Carelse.

Rian Prinsloo from Hi-Tech said one of the suspects was armed with what looked like an R5, and the other two had nine-millimetre pistols.

He said they were driving a silver Nissan Murano.

According to Capt Jabu Ndubane, spokesman for Barberton Police Station, a case of business robbery has been opened and no one has been arrested.
