Young fighter excels against his opponents

A young Barbertonian and member of the Nelspruit Taekwando Club, proved that hard work pays off at the Taekwando International Championship recently held in Pretoria.

Fajo Mawela won four medals after he excelled in various categories at the tournament. He competed against fighters from all over South Africa.

Mawela managed to obtain a gold medal for patterns, silver for fighting, and bronze medals for both board-breaking and musical patterns.

His coach, Job Magugula, said it is rare to find someone who is dedicated to martial arts in today’s world.

“Let me first state that as a club we are very proud of the young boy and I am confident to say that his future is looking bright in this field.

“To live as a martial artist is not only learning to fight for tournaments or to defend yourself on the streets when being attacked, but it also teaches them to be focused, disciplined and have morals in life,” he said.
