Grandparents enjoy a special treat

Sam Levenson says the reason grandchildren and grandparents get along so well, is that they have a common enemy.
Although this is hilarious and the word “enemy” might be a bit far-fetched, there is some truth in this saying.

Grandparents can do wonders with a disobedient child and they do so without being too strict. Unlike a mother or a father, they have the ability to bend those young trees without too much arguing from the little ones. There’s nothing more special to have than a grandmother or grandfather and you are truly blessed if you have both.

The role they play in children’s lives and the bond between them, are one of the most precious relationships in the world. Barberton Nursery School held its annual Grandfather and Grandmother Day on Friday.

The children thought it was great fun when the grandparents rolled up their sleeves and helped to decorate the cupcakes. Afterwards they were treated to tea and delicious snacks while the little ones, accompanied by Marilda Coetzee on the guitar, entertained them with popular songs.

It was a special day for the grannies and grandpas to see what the school looked like where their grandkids spend so many hours. They also became acquainted with the staff and met many of the friends their little ones spoke of so frequently.

Just before it was time to leave, the grandparents each received a surprise gift from the children. Shared enemies or not, the simple truth is, as Alex Haley so aptly puts it, “Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do. “Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.”
