R38 collision leaves 13 injured, 1 dead

Both Lifemed and ER24 were on the scene. Greg Wilcox, branch manager of ER24, told Lowvelder that the accident occurred about 35 kilometres from the R40 T-junction.

According to Wilcox, it seemed as if the Toyota driver had lost control on a corner. It hit the Pajero head-on.

Wilcox could confirm that the person who died was a male, but could not verify whether he was the driver or a passenger in the Toyota.

Among the seven injured were two children, aged four and five.

The five-year-old was bleeding internally and underwent emergency surgery after the collision. The youngest sustained a fractured leg and a shoulder injury. Six patients were transported to Mediclinic Nelspruit and one to Rob Ferreira Hospital.

At the time of going to press, Barberton Times was unable to confirm which victims had been travelling in which vehicle.

The SAPS were also on the scene. Barberton Times could not confirm whether a case had been opened.
