Art Vi Gallery welcomes poets and musicians

Zanne Nel and Elna Nel.

The first poetry event at Art Vi Art Gallery was held at the Plaaskombuis coffee shop on Tuesday.

The occasion was well attended and the guests enjoyed themselves.

The aim was to promote the new gallery in town. It first opened its doors in December last year, although an official grand opening will be held to celebrate this venture.

According to Zanne Nel from the gallery, this was the first of many that will be held here.

“We plan to host a film evening when we will show old movies and Spanish dancing. We have events every second month and the community should look forward to more fun-filled get-togethers.”

As part of the entertainment, Martie Diamond played the violin and a school band from Meridian Karino, called Tunnel Eclipse, gave a great performance.

The poets were Elna Nel, Karen Janse van Rensburg, Monica Kalis, Ina Austin and Rhoda Hattingh.

According to Nel the occasion would not have been a success without the help she received from the people.

“I want to thank everyone who assisted me in putting this event together, their assistance played a major role in the success of the night.

“I would like to thank all the poets who participated, the band, the violinist, Rita Cloete Bezuidenhoudt, Elna Nel, Christelle Strauss, Rita Esterhuysen, Helena van Jaarsveld, the personnel from Meridian Karino, and Procopis Anastassiou from Plaaskombuis for affording us the opportunity to use the venue.”

The gallery is owned by Hendrik Mörsner, a taxidermist and sculptor.
